Fraser Island is a popular backpacker destination however you will need to find hostel accommodation and that is where we can assist you. Fraser Roving Backpackers is situated on the Esplanade just 30m from Torquay Beach, 40 kms of sand perfect for swimming, jogging or playing. We offer comfortable, spacious and very clean backpacker accommodation with a relaxed and informal atmosphere. We are proud to be nominated No. 1 Hostel in Hervey Bay by the Lonely Planet.

Reception hours are from 5.30am to 9pm with late check-ins welcome. There is a large resort style swimming pool with guest BBQ facilities. Our licensed restaurant and bar provide great value food and drinks. If you are travelling by car, we have our own private car parking. For those travelling by coach, we offer a free pick up and return service.

Fraser Island 4WD hire

To spend 3 days on the island is an Australian adventure not to be missed. Fraser Roving offer 4WD vehicles for hire to groups of like minded travellers wishing to see this ‘World Heritage Listed’ wonder.

You have to travel by 4WD as the entire island is made of sand, so the most economical, and usually fun way, is to get together with a group of travellers and hire a 4WD.

Some of the sights awaiting the four wheel drive traveller include coloured sands, sandstone pinnacles, crystal clear fresh water creeks and lakes, the Maheno wreck, dense rainforests and rocky Indian Head.

Wildlife to be seen on Fraser Island include Australia’s wild dog, the Dingo, which thrives here and roams freely. There are over 200 species of birds to found.
